I wish I’d known beforehand that this past Saturday, September 19 was
Puppy Mill Awareness Day and I would have posted this sooner. But it’s not to late to discuss!
One of my new favorite blogs, Pawcurious, did a post on this today. The author of Pawcurious is a vet and describes in a compelling and heartbreaking way how it is NOT OKAY to buy puppies from pet stores. Of course, the exception to this is when the local animal shelters or rescues are there on site with pets available for adoption, like they do at Petco.
As Dr. V. urges in her blog post, please don’t ever buy a puppy from a pet store; they are undoubtedly from a puppy mill where the dogs live in horrific conditions and often have problems – physical and emotional – for life. This horror is in addition to the fact that there are so, oh, oh many pets that need homes already.
But as long as people keep purchasing from pet stores, the puppy mill people will keep supplying them. It’s plain and simple. I know most of you know this already but our friends and families may not! Please help educate others. It’s our duty as informed, caring animal lovers.
I love you guys for supporting me and my efforts to help animals everywhere. Thank you!
