The reason I support local animal rescues and shelters is because these are the organizations that matter to YOU GUYS, my wonderful, generous, supportive community.
These rescues and shelters are run by the people who have saved your pets (and saved Pugsley and me) and have brought joy to you and your families. We want to thank them!
We also love supporting these smaller, local organizations because we know that literally every dollar goes towards keeping their doors open and caring for the animals. This is increasingly difficult in this economy when resources are strained, more pets are abandoned and donations are down.
So I want you to know how your support, whether you’ve donated money, spread the word or cheered us on, has helped our monthly Furpower organizations.
I also want to say thank you to my generous sponsors who truly love animals and have been amazing advocates for our mission here! Thank you, Clean+Green by Sea Yu, Wellness Pet Food, Feline Pine, FURminator, Inc., Big Paw Designs and Petwebdesigner.com.

Redwood City, CA

Nine Lives Foundation is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to the welfare of all cats and kittens by providing low cost spay/neuter, rescue, medical, and adoption services. A no-kill facility that welcomes all cats and kittens regardless of their physical, medical or behavioral conditions, and places our animals in humane, responsible and loving homes.

This money will also buy about 10 weeks of supplies (medicine, baby food, etc.) for sick/injured kitties or those with special needs to help them recover so they too have a chance to find the loving homes they deserve. We will also be able to buy some cleaning supplies for kennel maintenance.”

Red Door Animal Shelter
Chicago, IL
$2,000 Raised!
Red Door Animal Shelter’s primary focus is on the rescue, shelter and adoption of cats, dogs and rabbits—the three most popular pets in the United States.
Marcia Coburn, Red Door’s executive director writes, “For a small but dedicated shelter like Red Door, the funds generated by Romeothecat.com were an enormous boost to our animal rescue efforts. On our budget, $2,000 can:
• spay or neuter & microchip 65 cats, dogs, or rabbits;
• buy salads for the rabbits for a year; or
• pay for emergency medical bills for four severely sick or injured animals found abandoned outside.
Thanks to the fundraising by Romeothecat.com, Red Door was able to spring into rescue action in new ways, including: taking in 6 motherless kittens found outside; spending hours in the rain rescuing a big white rabbit who was hiding under a parked car; and taking in two dogs were facing an unpromising future at a traditional shelter that had run out of room. We even rescued a beautiful chicken that was running around the city—and we found her a new home as a companion animal. The support Red Door got through Romeothecat.com allowed us to reach out to more animals in need and we’re thrilled we were able to.”

March 2009
Animals in Distress
Coopersburg, PA
$1,500 Raised!
Animals in Distress (AID) is a sanctuary for animals who have little or no hope elsewhere. They believe that there is a special home somewhere for every pet if there is enough time to find it. They keep every animal admitted, providing medical care, behavioral rehabilitation, good food, shelter, and, most important of all, love, until a suitable new home can be found.
“We are very pleased to be this month’s recipient,” said Lois Gadek, PhD, president of Animals in Distress. “These difficult economic times are hard for many people, and we are being swamped with requests to take animals, pay vet bills, and otherwise provide assistance. Donations to us are used to help the neediest of animals, those that would have little or no chance elsewhere.”
