Eventually, staff realized I was there and gave me a nice little noggin stroke and picked me up and we went downstairs for BREAKFAST!

Each week, we feature a new multi-pet household and today we have a wonderful story about inter-species friendship! Here’s what kitty Artemisia wrote:

I came to live with my family when I was six months old. Before that I lived at my Grandma & Grandpa’s. They don’t let cats in the house and they have lots of cats; we mainly stayed at the barn and around the shop. Except when Mommy came to visit. She brought us yummy food to eat. I would eat out of her hand but I wouldn’t let her touch me – nope, no way was that strange lady touching me. My brother would let her pet him, but I wouldn’t.

After Charybdis died Mommy decided to rescue me. They came up for Christmas and it was sleeting and really cold. I really wanted in that nice warm house so when Mommy opened the door I tried to run in and SHE caught me, but guess what? She took me in the house and sat down with me by the fireplace and petted me. When Daddy got there she popped me in a carrier and put me in the truck up front with her close to the nice warm heater and we drove for the longest time but then we were home. Mommy put me in the Master Bath which is really really small and provided me with a litter box food and water. There was a mean hissy growly cat outside the door (yep it was Scylla, don’t worry we are best friends now). The next day I went to the vet and got spayed and I had a ruptured eardrum. Once I was well, mommy let me out of the Master Bath. I mainly hid under her chair in the family room I didn’t want to get put outside. But I would come out to eat and I would come out at night to play. Gradually I started coming out more and guess who my very first friend was?

Fenris, he is a Great Big HUGE DOG but he has a huge heart and he is just the sweetest thing. I had to train him of course and boy it is a lot of work teaching a dog to play like a cat. But we has so much fun playing together.

And I discovered that I could play outside during the day and come back in whenever I wanted! This is the most awesome home ever and I has my very own food bowl even though there are two more cats. We all gets along great together.

Time to make the biscuits!

I’ve never tried this particular move as a wake up strategy but it works like a charm!

You know that adorable thing we all do when we knead our staff’s lap? And you know how the staff members get all gushy and misty-eyed when we do it? Yah, that thing.

I tried it this morning as a wake up tactic! And the staff could not resist.

First I meowed and meowed and meowed. Nothing. Then, I started “making biscuits” on the pillow. With my motor turned on high volume. Then I started making biscuits on her arm. !

While normally I get kind of yelled at when I’m waking her up, today I got “awwwww, baby. You are so sweet! You want BREAKFAST?”

HA HA! Did I ever! Am still congratulating myself on putting on such a brilliant show.

Question for other cats and their staff members: what word do you use for “kneading” or “making biscuits”?

Look at these awesome Bostons!

Teddy is a Boston Terrier and I have had him since he was a puppy. He belonged to my family but always had a bond with me and when I went moved to Columbus he came with me. I always felt like he needed a friend to play with but it was just never the right time. Then I met Alex (my husband), and he fell in love with Teddy. Secretly I think he loved the dog before he loved me.

Fast-forward three years and we noticed that Teddy was starting to slow down. He was getting older and we could tell a huge difference in his demeanor. We took him to the vet and she said he was fine but was just getting older and maybe could use a pal. So we started talking with people about the possibility of adopting another dog. A few weeks went by and my brother called and said someone was giving away a Boston Terrier, Max, and that he would go to the pound if we did not come there and get him immediately! The only problem was that they lived in Indiana – a three-hour drive from us – and it was already 5 p.m.

Alex said there was no way he was going to let Max stay one day in a pound and so we hopped in the car and drove and picked him up that evening.

Max is not an easy dog to live with…he has anxiety issues, he has chewed up so many things we’ve lost count and he has a pee problem. But for the last year and half he has helped Teddy transform back into the high-energy dog he once was. Max and Teddy have been inseparable from day one, despite the fact that Max had never been properly socialized; he just took right to Teddy.

These two dogs love each other so much; from the minute they wake up they are together. They love taking walks, eating their kibbles and getting baths together! Even when we go to bed at night, they like to snuggle with each other and sleep. Going forward, I’ll always have multiple pets because you just can’t beat the feeling you get from knowing that there is always someone there with them and they are never alone.
