Do You Back up Your Data?

October 3, 2012

What would you miss most if your computer suddenly fried and you lost all of your data? Important business? Music library? Pictures of your cats?

The staff is pretty good about backing her stuff up on an external hard drive but did you know that even those fail? She had that situation not too long ago and was not happy to say the least. She dropped everything and ran out to get a new one. But there’s a better way. Online back up.

We are working with a company called SurDoc to get the word out about the importance of saving your cat photos data. SurDoc has a service that offers automatic data back up to PC and Mac users. You install the software and it backs your data up automatically.

And we heart the SurDoc people because they understand cat households and how sometimes, we kitties can wreak a little havoc on computers. I admit I’ve deleted a few files in my time. And see the above photo? That was taken 2 inches from the laptop. Imagine if I had accidentally knocked over that water? Oy.

Anyway, check out the fun infographic below so keep your laptop – and data – safe from cat mishaps. Then, if you need to get yourself some back up, head over to Surdoc.com and sign up for an account. Use the code CATPROOF for a FREE 30GB account.

I’m curious….have you ever had cat-related computer um, issues?

Friends, I always disclose! This is a compensated post. SurDoc paid me to help spread the word and, as always, a significant portion of that payment will go to FURPOWER efforts!

It’s funny you should ask, Romeo. I never leave my laptop open when I go to bed, but for some reason I did last Wednesday. I woke up Thursday morning to find the keys covered in kitty puke, and the darn thing wouldn’t start. Apple said it was “water” damaged and needed expensive repairs, or I could just buy a new one. While I’m really enjoying the upgraded replacement I bought, I’m never going to let little Turing live this down. After all, with a name like that, he’s supposed to be making computers, not destroying them!

Fortunately, the old laptop was actually hooked up to my backup drive at the time, so I was able to hook up the new one and pick up right where I left off after it restored.

Kiki has fallen asleep on my laptop, which has fish wallpaper, so it looked really cute. However, she also walked across it one day and my screen was suddenly tipped sidewise, so I had to figure out how to get it back to the regular position. She does love the warmth of sitting on it, but I try to be careful not to let her. I haven’t lost any data, thank goodness.

I haven’t had any issues with my laptop because of MY cat, but I did with one of my parents cats. I was over at their house on my laptop one afternoon & their cat Pixel walked across my keyboard & caused my screen to freeze.

mom bought an external drive – she had no idea those could fail too (darned little brother the computer geek didn’t tell her that part). she says she is gonna have to look into this backup system….wouldn’t want to lose all her adoption records, pictures…and you know and her stuff too :)
