Furry Friends Friday – Kitty and the Kitten!

September 14, 2012

It’s Furry Friends Friday, sponsored by Pets Add Life (PAL), whose mission is to spread the joy of multi-pet ownership. We love this mission and we’re here to help!

Each week, we feature a new multi-pet household and today we’re featuring the sweet cats who live with (i.e. rule) our reader, Bernadette. Here’s what Bernadette tells us about her multi-pet household:

“Kitty is my eight-year-old Persian I bought with my ex-husband when we were living overseas in Germany in 2004. I brought her back with me when I moved back to Colorado when she was one year old. Lexi is a six-year-old (tortoise?) who still acts like a kitten. If it weren’t for living in an apartment I would definitely take in more animals. In my free time I like to volunteer at a local no-kill animal shelter (Every Creature Counts in Ft Lupton, CO) walking the dogs and visiting with the cats. I wish I could bring them all home! My next pet will definitely be a shelter animal.

Kitty was two years old when I was approached by a co-worker whose cat had had kittens. She was down to two kittens who needed homes. I wasn’t sure that I wanted to take on another kitty; my apartment wasn’t that big and I wasn’t sure if they’d get along. I said I would think about it. Later that afternoon as I was sitting at my desk, she walked in and dropped this gorgeous 12-week-old kitten in my lap saying she just thought she’d bring her by so if I could see her in person if I changed my mind. At that point how could I say no? After a rough start – Kitty was NOT happy about a rambunctious kitten invading her territory – Lexi eventually won her over. They love to chase each other all over, lie in sun puddles together and take turns cuddling with me (or both vying for space on my lap).

Also, it’s comforting for me to know that the girls can keep each other company while I’m at work all day. Multiple pet households are great!”

First of all, LOVE that Kitty is a Pugsley look at like! And secondly, Meow-out-loud! We love your co-worker’s strategy! She knew you wouldn’t refuse a kitten on your lap! Thanks for sharing your story about Kitty and the kitten.

Readers! If you want to share your multiple pet household story, email my staff at caroline(at)highpaw.com and she’ll send you questions.

Our survey on TCS shows that the vast majority of our members have more than one cat. You know how they say, one cat just leads to another…

Multi-cat household profiling is cool & all that, but how about for 1 week or 2 featuring only kitties???
