Eye Love You, Q-tips®

dirty cat eyes

Dirty, dirty eyes!

One of the issues with being a white cat is….tear stains! I get this dark, goopy gunk in the corners of my eyes that drips down towards my nose.

I don’t really care how it looks but it feels a little funky. Staff says I’m handsome no matter what but I prefer to have clean eyes.

Staff uses Q-tips® to clean all sorts of places on Pugsley and me. For the following uses, she likes the original Q-tips® because the tips are rounder and a little softer than the Precision Tips.

Here are instructions from the staff for cleaning our eyes with a Q-tip:

1. Hold the cat’s head very still (right, easier said than done, I know)
2. If the eye goop is dried, it helps to moisten it with a little water and let it sit a little bit to break up the pieces
3. If the goop is wet, continue to step 4.
4. Gently wipe away the pieces and/or goop with a Q-tip
5. Voila! Clean eyes!

On the flip side (literally) my staff sometimes uses Q-tips to remove “goop” from the other end of us, i.e., our little sensitive tushies.

She says the technique is the same. If the “stuff” is dried on there, use a little water to moisten the it and wait a few minutes and then wipe away with a Q-tip.

And, whooweee….as with around the eyes, be gentle back there!

And there you have it. I would love to know how you use Q-tips®. Leave a comment below telling me how YOU use Q-tips® and you could win a $50 Petco gift card, courtesy of Q-tips®!

If you tell me how you use Q-tips® for your pets, you’ll get TWO entries!

Deadline to enter is Friday, July 27, 2012 at Noon, EST.

And, by the way, friends: This is a sponsored post. We received Q-tips® product from Unilever, the makers of Q-tips® but my tips and suggestions are my own- with some help from Pugsley and the staff.

Thank you Q-tips and Romeo the Cat.

Trey, DJ, CeCe, PoohBear and Miss Prissy thank you too.

They have made out their wish lists already of what they each want from Petco.

The dogs Sugar and Cinnamon are jealous.

We will let you know when the prize arrives and what they spend it on at Petco

Thanks again
Linda

We mainly use q-tips for ear cleaning; especially for the foster kittens who had super duper icky ears from ear mites.

I use Q-tips for myself to clean my ears, apply ointments to the occasional kitty scratches I get, clean mascara off my eyelid when I accidentally smudge it, clean out the “optic window” on my wireless mouse when it becomes full of dust (possibly kitty hair too).

For my kitties I use Q-tips to clean ears when necessary, clean wounds & apply meds if needed (mostly with my semi feral outdoor kitties), sometimes if I drop one on the bathroom floor it becomes a toy, and I have a very small kitty named Sammi who only weighs about 5lbs & her little mouth is too tiny for even the smallest of kitty toothbrushes I
can find so we use a Q-tip to brush her teeth with.

I use them for something entirely different, but definitely animal oriented. I use Q Tips to clean the drinking ports on my hummingbird feeders and other places where the brushes can’t go. They work great! On my cats, I have one with a runny nose, so I use a Q Tip to clean his nose and surrounding area. Not his favorite thing, but neither is getting his pills.

i use precision q-tips to clean out the kong. I prefer these over the original q-tip as they are stronger/harder at the tip.

If my cats ears look dirty or waxy I place a little bit of water or liquid ear cleaner onto a Q-tip or cotton ball to gently wipe away any debris or earwax, but I NEVER enter the ear canal!

Our human mom uses Q-tips to clean “both ends” of our now beautiful bodies. When she rescued us, she used them to apply medicine between our toes and in our outer ears. She still uses them to keep Tippy’s eye clean, as one has a tear duct problem from when we were kittens on the streets. If the horses get a cut, put come the Q-tips! Oh yeah, she uses them to straighten her eye liner and other human make-up issues-I’ll never understand women’ when the grandhumans come, she uses them for cleaning and medicating cuts and scrapes. For everyone, she uses one to scoop cream from a jar. She says fingers have germs on them no matter how clean they are, and this prevents contamination of the whole jar. Keep up the good work. Your friend, Tyler the Mensa cat (that’s what my humans call me)

I was recently using Q-Tips to apply ointment to a a tender spot where my cat had injured himself. He wouldn’t let a finger near but would tolerate the Q-tip, and there was pain relief in this ointment so that was good.

the Momma uses a wet Q-Tip to clean the one edge of my nose that always seems to get a little dirty ( Harry laughs at me and says I have something called a “boo-ger”). I have a pink nose, so that little bit of black distracts from my natural good looks. The Q-Tip gets it right off.

Hi Romeo, I follow you on Twitter. One of my 3 rescue kitties, has a defective tear duct that is always leaking and crusting. She needs surgury on it, but I can’t afford it right now, so we use q-tips to uncrust here eyes every morning and night! She likes biting them and running off withthem too!My daughter and I use them every day, we sleep with earplugs and when we get up in the morning, the first thing we do, is run to the container for the q-tips to clean out our ears. Feels soooo good too!

Momma uses them for any small area that needs to be cleaned, just about! But she is very stingy with them and hides them from us, because she is afraid we might do something silly (and she is probably right)!

My Vet says I can put that black stuff that gets in cats ears when they have mites on one
and look at it under a magnifying glass! We seem to get a round of mites once a year but
mom had them from being in the streets.
