Furry Friends Fridays – Carson, Bocci and Bella!

It’s Furry Friends Friday, sponsored by Pets Add Life (PAL), whose mission is to spread the joy of multi-pet ownership. We love this mission and we’re here to help!

Each week, we feature a new multi-pet household and one of our readers, Joan, who blogs over at Bocci’s Beefs, shared this terrific story with us.

Joan writes….

I’d always been a “one pet at a time” kind of person, but one blustery fall night eight years ago, that vow to preserve my single-pet sanity was broken – by a tiny kitten meowing at me from behind a tractor trailer wheel in a Walgreens parking lot (the driver had just gotten back into his truck and started the engine.) By the time I could say “Here kitty!” she had jumped into my arms…and, well, the only rooms left for the night were at my home.

I worried whether she and my elderly wire fox terrier, Carson, would get along
or if he would resent or be hurt by my attention to the new little fur ball I named “Bella.” I sure didn’t want to make the old guy feel displaced at this point in his life, but as it turned out, I didn’t have to worry for long. Carson soon seemed to enjoy her antics-and her company, although he was a bit too old to chase her like she seemed to crave.

After we lost Carson a few years later, with Bella keeping a faithful vigil by his side for days, it was my turn to worry about Bella. Would she be injured or even ingested whole by a new canine companion? Would she feel hurt, or worse, angry, by a new furry intruder and take it out on my furniture?

My worries were unfounded once again. When I mentioned to the shelter staff that I had a cat, they wisely tested the easy-going pup (who had just chosen me) with the shelter feline, and he was immediately dubbed “cat friendly”. Bocci and Bella have been playing nonstop ever since-but their favorite evening ritual is to start chasing each other, barking, meowing and rolling about…just as I sit down to dinner. I call it my dinner time serenade.

After four years together, Bella rarely leaves Bocci’s side and even occasionally guest posts on his blog. With so many shelters bursting with adoptable dogs and cats, why not try a multiple-pet household? Feel free to mix or match species, but prepare for some relaxing dinner music.

I love the story of Carson, bella and Bocci! My staff even had the great pleasure of meeting Bella and Bocci one day and she says they are SUPER cute. You can see from his photos that Carson was a cutie too!

Please send the staff YOUR stories of multiple pet ownership to caroline@highpaw.com. xo!

We love Bocci, Carson and Bella’s story. Fenris is very sad that Arty Mouse has gone missing he misses having a kitty that will play with him.

Oh gosh that is such a wonderful story. Our cats here love our dogs too. They are all best buddies and snuggle all the time. I truly believe that animals do love to have company. That was a fun read.
