Pugs and I are excited to announce that we did our drawing and the Spay Neuter Action Project (SNAP) of San Diego is our July FURPOWER recipient! SNAP did a great job of rallying their supporters to nominate them on my site and obviously it paid off! Remember, the more individual nominations you receive, the more entries in the drawing you get, and the more chances you have to win!
The Spay Neuter Action Project was co-founded in 1990 by Candy Schumann (now SNAP’s Volunteer Executive Director). Candy was a volunteer in a local animal shelter and after seeing countless stray animals come and go, she knew that adoption alone wasn’t going to solve the problem. There were simply too many unwanted animals and not enough homes. Candy realized that to reduce the number of animals euthanized in shelters every year, it would be necessary to reduce the numbers of homeless animals coming into the shelters in the first place.
As of early 2009, almost two decades later, SNAP has spayed and neutered over 15,000 animals in clinics all over the county. The original Neuter Scooter, a mobile surgery bus launched in 2003, primarily serves communities in Southwest San Diego County (from City Heights to El Cajon and Chula Vista). The Neuter Scooter 2, dedicated in 2007, focuses on San Diego’s North County from Oceanside to Escondido. The two Neuter Scooters travel to low-income neighborhoods, providing affordable spay/neuter services right where they are most needed.
SNAP spays and neuters cats, dogs and even rabbits. They also foster animals
We’ll be announcing some fun contests to support SNAP this month so be on the lookout!
GO FURPOWER!
